Curriculum Overview The Green Tech academic program shall prepare students to meet and exceed the performance standards set forth by the New York State Board of Regents to enable all students to graduate with a Regents diploma. The school will also ensure that instruction is provided to all students in each of the seven learning standard curriculum areas.
Green Tech High Charter School shall administer all required high school Regents exams and any additional exams required by the state during the approximate grade levels, but for all students before graduation:
Comprehensive English, scheduled for 11th grade;
Math Course A, scheduled for 10th grade (or Algebra Regents in accordance with any changes adopted by the Board of Regents for commencement level math standards);
Earth Science, scheduled for 9th grade but not later than 10th grade (note: while passage of any one science Regents exam is acceptable for a Regents diploma, GTH is mandating the Earth Science exam for all students to fulfill this requirement);
Global Studies, scheduled for 10th grade; and
U.S. History and Government, scheduled for 11th grade.
The charter school also shall offer the following Regents exams to enable students, in consultation with their teacher(s) and principal, to take for an Advanced Regents diploma and to fulfill graduation course credits: Math Course B (or Geometry); Biology; Chemistry; Physics; and Spanish.
Green Tech High expects to administer the Terra Nova in reading, language arts and mathematics and the PSAT and SAT exams. The Terra Nova will be administered for each grade of the school, beginning in ninth grade, to provide a measure of student academic progress. To ensure a valid measure of students’ skill and knowledge upon arrival, all incoming students will take the Terra Nova in the fall of 2008, and each year thereafter for new students, regardless of grade level. All students on an annual basis also will take the Terra Nova at the end of the school year to measure student performance to reflect growth over time and allow for school-to-school comparisons.
The school leader and faculty will also be consulted in regards to continuing the administration of the Terra Nova in addition to the PSAT and the SAT. The PSAT will be offered to students in 9th and 10th grade and administered to students in 11th grade in order to determine readiness for the SAT. The SAT standardized test will be administered to students in 11th grade to assess their mastery of content needed for college admissions. Green Tech reserves the right and flexibility to administer a different standardized assessment that may provide a better measure of student performance.
